We are Kearney
Patrol Division is composed of four shifts and handles the bulk of police services. Daily duties consist of traffic control, accident investigations, preliminary investigations, and community support.
Criminal Investigations Division provides the highest quality criminal investigative support to the Kearney Police Department by conducting timely and thorough criminal investigations using advanced investigative techniques and forensic equipment.
K-9 Units currently provides support to the Patrol and the Emergency Services Unit. Also providing assistance to other surrounding Law Enforcement Agencies.
Emergency Services Unit is composed of both the Kearney Police Department and the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office. This unit conducts high risk warrants and searches.
School Resource Officers are assigned to all Kearney Public Schools . They are the liaisons between KPD and KPS. They work with the school administration as well as parents on maintaining a safe environment for all students and staff.
Our Motorcycle Unit focuses on traffic control, parades, motorcades, training, education, patrol duties, and other special events.
Victim Services provides support to our victims of crimes assisting with court appearances, protection orders, and general information.
The Property and Evidence Unit is a high-density storage facility which contains over 70,000 items. Over 10,000 items per year are checked into the co-located Property and Evidence Unit. Detailed computer records are kept on each item and bar codes are used to track each item to it's eventual disposition.
Our Community Service Officers are non-sworn officers that assist with animal control, parking enforcement, private property accidents, traffic control, and paper service.
Records provides support to the department involving police reports, records, archiving of historical data.
Staff Services works to coordinate all the necessary training and equipment purchases for our officers. We are among the best in providing quality trained officers in the state.
Kearney Police Department forensic lab can handle anything from fingerprint identification to serial number restoration. All of our officers are trained in the use of the available equipment in the processing of evidence.
The Kearney Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff's Office operate one of the best electronic evidence labs in our area. The lab is composed of multiple officers with advanced training in this field.
The Accident/Scene Reconstruction Team is comprised of both the Kearney Police Department and the Buffalo County Sheriff's Office. The team investigates and assists with major accident and crime scene investigations.
